IT Director

Rhode Island Public Radio is one of the nation's newest NPR-member stations and has already established one of the most trusted newsrooms in the Ocean State.  We serve a growing audience and are looking for a full-time IT Director that is a budget-conscious innovator, exceptionally organized dreamer, reasonable risk-taker and emotionally literate technologist.  If you think the preceding attributes are oxymorons, then this is not the job for you.  If you dare to re-imagine how a public radio station can operate with the latest IT, then this is the job for you.

The IT Director manages all aspects of RIPR's technology & broadcast infrastructure and provides strong leadership in setting the technological direction for the organization. Responsibilities include: technical oversight of our multi-platform news delivery system, directly managing the freelance staff responsible for maintaining four radio stations while supporting the technology needs of staff; improving the organization's database systems; and authoring the organizations' IT strategy. The IT Director must innovate so RIPR can remain timely and in service to the RI community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Serves as Chief Operator of all FCC licensed facilities, ensuring full compliance with FCC rules and regulations
- Responsible for ensuring programs broadcast on-the-air, and stream online 24/7.
- Maintains security of the organizations' data; advises on the development and implementation of data privacy policy.
- Financial responsibility and authority for RIPR technology department budget management and reporting.
- Develop, implement, and oversee robust preventive equipment maintenance schedule as well as timely response and remediation for unplanned outages.
- Perform hands-on engineering support as needed, including maintenance of equipment at remote sites.
- Collaborates with technology partners such as The Rhode Island Foundation and Latino Public Radio. Establishes and maintains key vendor relationships. Chairs RIPR's IT Committee consisting of knowledgeable volunteers and CIO's in the greater RI community.
- Works with the General Manager and development personnel to seek funding for the company's various technical projects.

Education Requirements:

Bachelors degree in electrical or computer engineering, information technology, or related field and a minimum of 10 years of broadcast engineering and information technology, or related experience

Experience Requirements:

- Three to five years experience managing IT department, preferably in broadcast media business.
- Familiarity with information security vulnerabilities and risk management.
- Familiarity with consumer privacy and payments industry compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with broadcast engineering, AudioVault automation, Adobe Audition editing software, radio control room boards, Raisers' Edge donor database, Quickbooks, and Microsoft Office.
- Certification preferred but not required - SBE CBNT or MCSE.
- Demonstrate a strong emphasis on customer service skills, to our listeners, supporters, volunteers and staff.

Job Environment:

Collaborative atmosphere grounded in an environment of mutual respect and trust. RIPR is located in The Rhode Island Foundation building in downtown Providence.  Broadcast sites are located in North Providence, Narragansett, Coventry, RI and Seekonk MA.
