National Grid warns against scam

National Grid is warning customers of a new nationwide utility bill scam.

Over the past several days National Grid electric customers have received phone calls from people claiming to work for the utility. The scammers demand payment on past-due bills and threaten customers with a shut-off of service. Occasionally, the caller also tells customers they have a faulty meter that will need to be replaced for a substantial fee.

Power coming back, storm gets ranked

(Update) As of 8 this morning National Grid reports the number of customers without power is down to 2100. 95 percent of those are in Washington County.

National Grid is working to restore electricity to 2700 customers in Rhode Island. 2600 of those are in South Kingstown and the other communities of Washington County. On its website National Grid reports it hopes to have power back on to all customers by noon today.

Power still out in parts of northern RI

Hundreds of homes and businesses are still without power in Rhode Island. That’s down from about 25,000 early this morning.

National Grid spokesman David Graves says last night was a wild one in Rhode Island. 60-mile-an-hour winds ripped through trees and snagged power lines. He says crews are still working on restoring power to thousands of customers, mainly in southeastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island.

Winter storm puts Nat'l Grid on alert

PROVIDENCE, RI - A powerful winter storm headed for New England has power company workers on standby to respond to outages. That's because high winds expected with this storm could down trees and power lines. National Grid spokeswoman Debbie Drew says the company is on alert for any problems.
