A Winter Weather Mix in RI for Tuesday

The mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain that is currently coming down around Rhode Island is making the roads slippery. National Weather Service meteorologist Alan Dunham says this mix will continue throughout the first part of the morning.

Rain expected to wash away much of snow

The National Weather Service is still compiling the data from this past weekend’s snow storm. But even without official measurements Meteorologist Matthew Belk says: we saw a lot of snow. “Looking across Rhode Island we’re looking at widespread accumulations of a foot and a-half to two and a-half feet of snow. The highest snowfall that I see in RI is 27.6 inches in West Glocester.

High winds, heavy rain

RI and southeast MA are under a high wind warning this morning. National Weather Service meteorologist Alan Dunham warns that this morning’s gusts are going to make the going tough for drivers.

“It's a bit of a wild one," Dunham says, "TF Green Airport had a wind gust to 56 miles an hour, so there’s some strong winds out there."

Dunham says there are branches down on roadways, and he urges drivers to use caution.

Cold weather creates overcrowding in shelters

Slippery roads and school delays

(PROVIDENCE, RI) There are many delayed openings for local schools this morning. And there is no school for Foster-Glocester. For a complete list click here.

Prepare for a slippery, snowy commute this morning according to National Weather Service meteorologist Stephanie Dunten. She says the amount of snow will vary through-out the state. She expects the Providence area will get two-to-four inches of snow.
