Providence, R.I. – Medical marijuana advocates say they're sick of waiting for the Rhode Island Health Department. Dozens of patients protested the department's decision to disqualify all 15 applicants to run the state's first medical marijuana retail stores.

Providence, R.I. – The percentage of RI high school seniors taking the SAT exam is on the rise, but scores are down in two of the three tested subject areas.

There was a five percent increase in participation by the class of 2010, with 5,718 seniors taking the exam. Math score averages were up a point to 488. Reading scores dropped a point to 485 and writing scores dropped four points to 478.

Scores in each category were below the national averages.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tomorrow is primary election day. Seven-hundred thousand Rhode Islanders are eligible to cast ballots. But how many of us will take the time to go to the polls? WRNI political analyst Scott MacKay has some thoughts for those who believe their votes don't count.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island is on the wrong side of a national trend when it comes to traffic fatalities.

In 2009, the United States posted its lowest traffic fatality rate since 1950, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Highway deaths were down nearly 10 percent to roughly 34,000.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sunny skies and pleasant temperatures are expected Tuesday, which eliminates lousy weather as a reason to keep voters from the polls.

The four-way Democratic race in the 1st Congressional District is one marquee battle. Voters will also choose the Republican gubernatorial candidate for November, and the Democratic candidates for attorney general, lieutenant governor, and mayor of Providence.

Providence, R.I. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is lowering water levels at the Turner Reservoir Dam so construction crews can start building a passage for fish.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it will take about three weeks to lower water levels at the dam by 42-inches.

Once lowered, construction can begin on fish passage facilities along the lower Ten Mile River at Omega Pond Dam, Hunts Mill Dam and Turner Reservoir Dam.

Providence, R.I. – The Providence Mayor's Office and Rhode Island Department of Transportation have announced a design competition to build a new pedestrian bridge over the Providence River.

The proposed bridge would replace the old I-195 highway bridge, which is scheduled for demolition next year. According to Mayor Cicilline, the bridge will be a landmark for Providence and for the region.
