Flo Jonic boasts a wide array of broadcast experience from stations all over the country. Her career includes reporting and anchoring for KXLY Television in Spokane, WA, KPTV Television in Portland, OR, and WBZ-AM in Boston. Jonic points to her coverage of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens as her most memorable moment in the industry to date.

Jonic holds a Bachelor of Science from Duquesne University. Her work has been honored by the Associated Press and the Radio and Television News Directors Association. In her spare time, Jonic enjoys antiquing and spending time with her two English Springer Spaniels, Luke and Mack.

Central Falls Expands City Hall Hours on Tuesdays

The city of Central Falls has taken steps to be more accessible to residents. Starting next Tuesday and continuing on the second and last Tuesday of every month, Central Falls City Hall will be open until 7:00pm.

On the same Tuesdays, Central Falls Mayor James Diossa will hold “office hours” where city residents can come to his second floor office and meet with him. The office hours will be from 4:30 to 7:00 pm.

Diossa said he is making the changes to accommodate the busy schedules of the city’s hard-working residents.

The Legal Strategy Facing Wife of Boston Bombing Suspect

Katherine Russell, the North Kingstown native who is the widow of suspected marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, has added a new person to her legal team, someone with expertise handling cases involving terrorism.  Her original lawyers come from a small Providence firm called DeLuca and Weizenbaum.

They specialize in medical malpractice.  Rhode Island Public Radio's Flo Jonic looks into how the firm ended up representing Katherine Russell, and what her legal options as the probe continues into what she knew about her husband's activities.

The Latest on Widow of Boston Marathon Bombing Suspect

A North Kingstown woman finds herself at the vortex of one of the most intensive criminal investigations in American history.  This is the latest on Katherine Russell and her connection to the Boston Marathon bombing investigation.

Three weeks ago she was an anonymous home health aide working 70 to 80 hours a week to feed and shelter her husband and baby daughter.  Now, Katherine Russell – by virtue of being the widow of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev – is being hunted by the news media and shadowed by federal investigators.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Speaks to 2013 New England Tech Graduates

Retired professional basketball player, best-selling author and filmmaker Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the keynote speaker at the New England Institute of Technology graduation ceremony yesterday (Sunday.)  He told the roughly 12-hundred graduates about the things he wished he had done when he was their age.

Twin River Expansion Requires Hundreds More Employees

If you know somebody in need of a job, you might want to steer them to Twin River.  The slot parlor is going to full casino gambling  this summer and Twin River spokeswoman Patti Doyle says they’re still looking to hire at least 300 workers, mostly dealers. She describes the qualities they’re looking for.

Rhode Island Constitution on Display for 170th Anniversary

The state Archives is staging a special exhibition to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the first Rhode Island state constitution.  The exhibit features an array of original documents, including journals from the first constitutional convention in 1824, petitions to expand the right to vote and a copy of the 1841 “People’s Constitution” as ratified by supporters of Thomas Dorr.

Secretary of State Ralph Mollis says it’s an exhibit well worth seeing for people interested in Rhode Island history.

Centenarians Honored at Annual Brunch

Rhode Island has the nation’s highest concentration of individuals over the age of 85.  So, it should come as no surprise that we also have a lot of centenarians.  Some of them were honored today at the Governor’s Annual Centenarian Brunch. Rhode Island Public Radio's Flo Jonic was there.

Providence College Faces Racial Profiling on Campus

A group of Providence College students and faculty is alleging a pattern of widespread racial profiling on the Smith Hill campus.

About 30 Providence College students and faculty picketed the school, alleging a widespread campaign of racial profiling.  Junior Juan Lopez says he’s been asking himself if he really belongs at the Catholic college.

Beacon Atop Superman Building Won't Go Out

The beacon light atop the tallest building in Rhode Island will remain on for the time being. But the owner of the so-called “Superman Building” says that could change if state leaders don’t approve a $39 million package of tax credits. State leaders are decidedly lukewarm to the idea.

Mysterious "Misha" With Connection to Bombing Suspect Turns up in RI

A mysterious man named “Misha,” who may have evangelized Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, has surfaced in West Warwick.

Originally identified by the New York Review of Books, Misha was keeping a low profile Monday as reporters gathered outside his modest apartment.
