Brown University has suspended members of the university’s men’s swimming and diving team after an investigation disclosed violations of alcohol and hazing policies, the university announced today.
The sanctions emanate from an October, 2017 incident. In addition to alcohol and hazing violations, a comprehensive university investigation the team was “found responsible for misrepresenting information about the incident to university officials.”
The university did not disclose the names of those sanctioned, citing school policies and federal laws that protect the privacy of student records.
The suspension is carried until December 21, 2018, the last day of the fall semester. The team is barred from representing the university in athletics competition.
The team will also be on probation during the spring semester of 2019. The university’s Office of Student and Community Standards informed the team of the action today.
