CIANCI TRIAL: CITY GOVERNMENT
By Martha Bebinger
Providence, RI – Jury selection began Wednesday in the corruption trial of Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. The trial of Cianci and three other defendents is expected to take about two months. Also on trial are Cianci's former top aide, Frank Corrente, tow operator Richard Autiello; and businessman Edward Voccola.
Cianci entered the courthouse expressing confidence.
“I hope to get a fair trial, and I think I will,” said Cianci.
Mayor Cianci plans to ajust his schedule to be in court every day, but says the trial will not interfere with the operation of city government.
WRNI’s Martha Bebinger filed this report on April 12 on city government operations during the trial.
