Old Growth Saved from Development
The Mother Beech, the largest beech tree in Oakland Woods, estimated to be upwards of 350 years old.

(Portsmouth, RI) – In Rhode Island, there is only one confirmed stand of old growth forest. Some of the trees on this land in Portsmouth are more than 300 years old. Reporter Laurie Sanders explains how Oakland Woods was saved from development.
