A Providence teen who drowned in a North Attleborough pond Sunday afternoon has been identified.
16-year-old Jonathan Lozada was on a family outing at Whiting’s Pond when the incident occured.
Investigators said Lozada entered the water with a friend and within minutes was seen flailing his arms before going under water. Approximately two hours later, Norton Fire Department rescue divers located the boy’s body more than 20 feet from the shoreline and some 40 feet underwater.
Gregg Miliote, Bristol County District Attorney Office spokesman, said swimmers should pay attention to warning signs, like ‘no lifeguard.’
“Even if there is a lifeguard on duty, go out in to the water with somebody else. Understand the risk and understand the depth of the water,” he said.
Miliote said the investigation is still on going and as of right now there is no evidence of foul play.
This is at least the 9th drowning in Massachusetts since late June.
