Sister Jane Gerety, president of Salve Regina University for almost a past decade, announced today that she will retire in June, 2019.

Sister Gerety, a religious Sister of Mercy announced her decision at a university-wide meeting with staff, students and faculty.

“This has been the best job in the world,” she said. “I’ve cherished my work, together with our faculty, of ensuring that every Salve graduate enters the real world with the best chance to succeed, both personally and professionally.”

Sister Gerety was inaugurated as Salve’s seventh president in July, 2009. She had previously served on the university’s board of trustees since 1995.

The university has formed a national search committee and Sister Gerety will be working closely with the committee to ensure a “seamless transition.”

During her tenure at the Newport campus, Salve launched a doctorate program in nursing, a masters’ degree program in fine arts and creative writing and expanded programs in business, sciences and in adult education.
