John Benson, Newport

John Benson is the owner of the John Stevens Shop - specialists in hand carving of stone inscriptions. The shop claims to be one of the oldest businesses in the country. It has operated continuously since 1705 and has been run by the Benson family for 3 generations. Their work can be found on some of America's most prominent buildings, monuments, and Headstones.

John Hirsch is professional cyclist, and a public defender in NYC. He has been coming to Block Island since he was a child.

A Providence Artist from Ecuador

Augustin Patino is an internationally known artist. He was born in Equador and has lived and worked in Providence for about four years. In 2009, he finished a large, highly acclaimed, public mural at the intersection of Ontario and Broad Streets in Providence.


Branden Lewis - Teacher at The Genesis Center, Providence

Branden Lewis is the Head Chef Instructor at the Genesis Center in Providence. While studying at Johnson and Wales University, Lewis worked and learned in kitchens around the world, and he says this international experience made him want to teach at the Genesis Center.

The Genesis Center serves immigrants, refugees, and low-income families from twenty-five countries. Students can learn computer skills and English as a second language, and can also take classes in the culinary arts and health care industries.

Reverend Dan Trainor and Sister Angela Daniels founded the Center in 1982 after they saw a group of Hmong immigrants walking through the snow. The Center originally helped Southeast Asian families who were settling in the city's West End.


Barbara Warrington - Slatersville (North Smithfield)

Barbara Warrington has lived in Slatersville (North Smithfield) since 1933. She went to school in a one room school house and reflects on how the community has changed.
